- Step 1: Open the .odt file with a word processing program, such as LibreOffice or Microsoft Word.
- Step 2: Save your document by choosing the "Save As" option and then saving the file as a .doc document.
Converting from LibreOffice to Word is as easy as follows:
- Go to the File menu and choose the folder where you want to export the document in Word format.
- Then, from the drop-down menu "Save as" (on Windows) or "File type" (on Mac), choose the Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) option.
To convert an .odt file, follow these steps:
- Go to the Acrobat Tools menu and choose the "Create PDF" option.
- Select a file and locate the .odt file.
- Click on the .odt file you want to convert and then choose "Create".
If you want to open an .odt file online, I recommend using Google Docs.
ODT files are documents that are part of the OpenDocument project, which was created to provide a free and open standard for creating text files, spreadsheets, presentations, and other types of documents.
DOCX is the document format that succeeded DOC and is used by Microsoft Word. Although both formats are quite open, DOCX works better because it produces smaller and less corruptible files. It is advisable to use the DOCX format if available.
- Select LibreOffice Writer.
- In the top-right corner, click on the gear-shaped icon.
- Then, click on Options.
- In the window that opens, double-click on Load/Save and then click on General.
- Choose a text document from the drop-down list and select the Word 2007-2019 document type.
To open a Microsoft Office file with LibreOffice, follow these steps:
- Look for "File" in the menu bar and click on "Open".
- Navigate to the folder you want to open and double-click on the document.
- You can open Word files in standard formats with LibreOffice.
